PPE guidance continues to put staff and patients at risk

Dr David Tomlinson has written a piece today on the hub of Patient Safety Learning describing that approximately 1,000 healthcare and care workers died from COVID-19 in the UK and 122,000 workers are suffering from Long COVID.

He argues that current PPE guidance still fails to protect staff and patients against the airborne nature of COVID-19. He also highlights the efforts made by many to raise safety concerns and that the response to date has been inadequate, unsafe and unlawful.

The post raises the point that frontline healthcare staff have undoubtedly been disproportionately affected by Covid-19 infections and issues with PPE supplies at the start of pandemic and a failure to respond to the virus as airborne, meant that many were working without adequate protection.
